Today’s prompt challenges us to “write a poem of over-the-top compliments. Pick a person, place, or thing you love, and praise it in the most effusive way you can. Go for broke with metaphors, similes, and more. Need a little inspiration? Perhaps you’ll find it in the lyrics of Cole Porter’s “You’re The Top.” (Scroll down at the link for the lyrics and an annotated explanation of them).” ~ NaPoWriMo, Day 16

I must have been plunged into a witchy mood by fellow poet Shuku Li’s Banishing Spell and that mesmerizing piece by Arne Mellnas entitled Aglepta, which she links to on her blog (thank you, Shuku!). Even though I followed the prompt’s instructions, trying to praise and be effusive, my over-the-top compliments took a dark turn toward medieval witch trials and I ended up with a sad persona poem. This being said, I hope that my witch’s affection for her companion comes through. Witches are capable of love too, you know.

PS–Most of the poems written this April will remain online for up to five days, after which they will be replaced by an excerpt, an erasure, or a thoroughly amateurish art piece that will only allow for bits of the original poem to peek through. At least, this is the plan. The reason being that, at some point, in the hopefully not too distant future, these drafts will undergo revision and begin their multiple-year pilgrimage through the slush piles of many a literary journal. So help me, O Muse.

PPS–The seashell angels did their thing and I did mine. They started introducing strange symbols and won’t tell me what they mean. But because today was Earth Day, I assume that’s our planet, there, in the center? What do these angels have in mind for us?
