NaPoWriMo 2020: Poetry from the trenches, Day 20

Today’s prompt asks us to manifest our gratitude for having made it to Day 20 by writing “a poem about a handmade or homemade gift that you have received. It could be a friendship bracelet made for you by a grade-school classmate, an itchy sweater from your Aunt Louisa, a plateful of cinnamon toast from your grandmother, a mix-tape from an old girlfriend. And whatever gift you choose, we wish you happy writing!” ~ NaPoWriMo, Day 20

The choice of a handmade gift to write about was an easy one for me. My good friend and soul sister, Marga Fripp, who is a gifted poet and artist–and who has been a constant luminous presence in my life–gave me this gorgeous painting of a white horse. Without giving anything away, the poem I wrote describes my reaction to Marga’s gift. And I would love to invite you to check out Marga’s website, where she shares her art and poetry and unique life experiences. Mulțumesc pentru cadou, dragă Marga! Sper să-ți placă și ție cadoul meu. 🙏🥰💜

PS–Most of the poems written this April will remain online for up to five days, after which they will be replaced by an excerpt, an erasure, or a thoroughly amateurish art piece that will only allow for bits of the original poem to peek through. At least, this is the plan. The reason being that, at some point, in the hopefully not too distant future, these drafts will undergo revision and begin their multiple-year pilgrimage through the slush piles of many a literary journal. So help me, O Muse.

PPS–Ah, the wild horses are settling down for a nap before they are taken to pasture again. Instead, the seashell angels have brought out their seashell horses for a quick poetry romp through the garden of cornucopia. Such infinite hunger! Such infinite joy!
