Today’s prompt asks us to “write a poem about a particular letter of the alphabet, or perhaps, the letters that form a short word. Doesn’t “S” look sneaky and snakelike? And “W” clearly doesn’t know where it’s going! Think about the shape of the letter(s), and use that as the take-off point for your poem. ” ~ NaPoWriMo, Day 23

Yes, the S does look sneaky and snakelike! After this first letter, all the others followed, carried along by Christian mythology, my fear of heights, and a couple of my recurring nightmares. Not much more to say–I’ve already overshared. This is so meta, my brain is in knots. I’ll go feel my favorite emotion for a while.

PS–Most of the poems written this April will remain online for up to five days, after which they will be replaced by an excerpt, an erasure, or a thoroughly amateurish art piece that will only allow for bits of the original poem to peek through. At least, this is the plan. The reason being that, at some point, in the hopefully not too distant future, these drafts will undergo revision and begin their multiple-year pilgrimage through the slush piles of many a literary journal. So help me, O Muse.

PPS–As mentioned above, the original poem has been replaced by an erasure. My seashell angels are present, of course, but getting antsy. They’ve given me all kinds of hints that they have better things to do with their time. I believe them. I told them so–and how proud I am of all their work. They softened immediately and regained a modicum of their former enthusiasm. The inevitable has been postponed. For now.
