NaPoWriMo 2020: Poetry from the trenches, Day 29

Today’s prompt challenges us to “write a paean to the stalwart hero of your household: your pet. Sing high your praises and tell the tale of Kitty McFluffleface’s ascension of Mt. Couch. Let us hear how your intrepid doggo bravely answers the call to adventure whenever the leash jingles.” ~ NaPoWriMo, Day 29

Here’s a silly poem that has no dignity or ambition. All it wants to do is chew on its toy. Also, go to sleep. Yes. Sleeping sounds really good right now.

PS–Most of the poems written this April will remain online for up to five days, after which they will be replaced by an excerpt, an erasure, or a thoroughly amateurish art piece that will only allow for bits of the original poem to peek through. At least, this is the plan. The reason being that, at some point, in the hopefully not too distant future, these drafts will undergo revision and begin their multiple-year pilgrimage through the slush piles of many a literary journal. So help me, O Muse.

PPS–Even the silly poem had to go–you never know when something silly may be the seed of something… well, less silly. Instead of the original draft, here’s a penultimate erasure, staged by the all-packed-and-ready-to-go seashell angels. The good news is that they’ve been more communicative and promise to pay me a visit now and then, whenever they feel like it (they emphasized this last part). I’ll be sooo glad to see them again. I think.
