Thief

Thief

This morning
I steal away
a moment.
I hold it tight

in my palm,
as it stretches
its limbs

into my flesh —
a sleepy rabbit.
I watch it
skip across

the threshold
into fresh snow,
leave no marks on the page,

except
for the shadow
of a slightly
smaller
truth.
